伊58 伊58(艦隊これくしょん) 伊58(艦これ) ゴーヤ ごーや ゴーヤちゃん ごーやちゃん
The submarine/aircraft carrying submarine I-58 in Kantai Collection.
I-168 and I-58 share the same costume, consisting of a white and blue serafuku top with pink neckerchief over a classic blue school swimsuit. She has red or pink eyes and short light brown hair or pink hair (depends on the artist), with a peculiar hair ornament consisting of a golden clip holding two sakura petals and two ribbons which appear to be connected to her ahoge. Like I-401, she doesn't wear any shoes.
Her nickname is "Gouya" (58 in goroawase). Cue bitter melon puns. She also has another nickname, Dechi, based on her verbal tic of saying desu, kudasai and other similar words as dechi and kudachi.
I-58 is frequently paired with U-511 or Ro-500, most often teaching the shy and newly arrived Yuu about Japanese culture or the basics of being an IJN submarine, or putting up with the energetic affection of the outgoing Ro.
The historical I-58 is most well known for sinking the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis soon after it delivered parts and uranium for the Little Boy atomic bomb. As Indianapolis was traveling from Guam to Leyte without escort or anti-submarine equipment, I-58 was able to hit her with two torpedoes. The cruiser went down quickly, and approximately 879 crew died in the sinking or while waiting for rescue. After the war Indianapolis' captain Charles B. McVay III was court-martialed for hazarding his ship by failing to zigzag. I-58's commander Hashimoto Mochitsura was called to testify, and stated that due to I-58's position, zigzagging would not have been effective.
On May 25, 2017, I-58 was discovered standing vertically in about 200 meters of water. She is one of only three large wrecks known to be standing vertically.
In a lesser bit of trivia the type of sub I-58 is a Type B mod 2 would make her technically a half sister or cousin to I-19 and I-26(those 2 being part of the first generation batch type B subs I-58 being a 3rd generation mod 2)
