The long spear--traditionally a pole weapon with a bladed end that measures 1.0 to 1.5 times the wielder's height--as the seminal weapon of Lunari history, dating back to their earlier ancestors more than four-hundred thousand years ago and predating swords, bows, and axes. It is also woefully obsolete, even among modern infantry weapons (with the advent of automatic rifles, machine guns and portable rocket launchers), and industrialized warfare in the forms of armored fighting vehicles, close-support aircraft and coastal warships. It remains the ideal weapon among the warrior castes, reflecting the few physical limitations of their people (like not being particularly tall compared to other peoples), is a powerful counter to mounted calvary, and when combined with a skilled warrior on horseback, was practically unbeatable among bladed weapons. Spears (or more accurately, prized spearheads paired with long shafts of treated wood or synthetic polymers) still serve as ancestral badges of rank, some of them thousands or tens of thousands of years old and dating to the founding of royal houses. Dame Séirye belongs to one such royal house, and the nom de guerre she inherited from her mother, "the Sunspear" reflects both the artifact itself but also an ancestral line of spear-wielding warriors that dates back to the founding of the empire. Séirye may've spent her whole childhood, and decades after that, training in spear-wielding, but that doesn't make it any more practical in a military career; instead, most times she's actually seen carrying a spear, it's for some public function or a photographic memento, like wearing the uniforms of the South Army Central Group, or posing with her family's ancestral weapons in their palace armory.
[Author's Note: Pixiv is being very slow this evening, but this is a sort of further update of one of the earliest sets featuring this character (pixiv #103053483»), while featuring a more dynamic pose than a recent set (pixiv #105600692»). Generally, specific weapons (even one as simple as a spear) are hard to generate; the best way is to use ControlNet paired with a reference picture, and a great deal of correction in Photoshop. Putting Séirye in armor is a lot of fun (even if it's not as gratuitously sexy as Saori in a bikini), and I'd like to give the other characters this same treatment.]
