SEGA's original, hugely successful (specially in the West), 16-bit video game home game console released in 1988 in Japan.

Also known in North United states as the Sega Genesis and was released there a year later in 1989.

A miniature version with built-in games was released in 2019.

Preceded by the 8-bit Sega Master System and succeded by the Sega Saturn.
