A model of smartphone, created by Samsung, that was released in September 2016.

It had a major technical problem with its battery system that resulted in severe overheating to the point that, in apparently random situations, the batteries could catch on fire or even explode. Samsung recalled the first run of the Note 7, and later issued replacements and a second version, claiming that the battery issue had been fixed.

Within two weeks, several of the replacements and newer-version Note 7s also began experiencing identical issues with catastrophic overheating. Samsung has issued a global recall of all Note 7s, and (supposedly) shut down all production of the device.
