i-401 (kancolle)
伊401 伊401(艦隊これくしょん) 伊401(艦これ) しおい
The personification of the Japanese submarine I-401 in Kantai Collection.
Character designed by Shibafu, voiced by Ise Mariya.
Appearance
She wears a school swimsuit with a name tag under a white and orange sailor collared sleeveless side-tie shirt. She has medium-short brown hair in a ponytail secured with a peculiar hairclip along with brown eyes and a noticably tanned complexion. Like I-58, she is barefoot.
Her nickname is "Shioi" (The number "401" in goroawase). She is one of the few who consistently refers to herself with her full name (she pronounces it as "I-Yonmaruichi", can be translated as "I-four-oh-one")
Seasonals
For New Years 2016, she was given a New Years seasonal outfit. She is given a furisode with a floral print and she is holding a hamaya with a charm which has "Seiran" written on it.
For Summer 2017, she was given another seasonal CG, but aside from a different pose and minimal gear (only a single gun holstered on her thigh), her outfit is identical to her usual CG.
History
Her model is the Sen Toku-class aircraft-carrying submarine of the same name. The Sen Toku-class were once the largest submarines ever constructed and were originally meant for an attack on the Panama Canal. However, they were never used in any meaningful way as the few completed were only commissioned near the end of the war. The I-401 was sunk as a target off Pearl Harbor on May 31st 1946.
