gat (korean traditional hat)
A gat, also called a heuklip (lit. black hat), is a type of Korean traditional hat; until the 19th century, it was worn only be noblemen.
They are cylindrical in shape with a wide brim (양태) on a bamboo frame (모자). Compare to the Western top hat.
Though most gat are black, some variations exist. White gat were exclusively for funerals. Red gat were worn by military officials.
The dangling accessory is called gatkuen.
A variant made from bamboo is called the paeraengi.
