dao

Hanji: 刀

Chinese single-edged swords.

The most common type is the liuye-dao (柳叶刀/柳葉刀, literally ”willow leaf blade”). It is similar to a scimitar. In Japan it is often called 青竜刀/青龍刀 that was originally a Chinese abbreviation for Guan Yu's Green Dragon Crescent Blade (青龍偃月刀).
