blade runner
A 1982 American science fiction film, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Edward James Olmos, Daryl Hannah and Sean Young.
The screenplay, written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, is loosely based on the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by American sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick.
While not initially a success with North American audiences, Blade Runner was very popular internationally and became a cult film. It was a hit in Japan, where it greatly influenced the "cyberpunk" look of later sci-fi anime and manga like Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, Armitage III, Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed among many many others.
The movie's dark style and futuristic designs by Syd Mead have served as a benchmark and its influence can be seen in many subsequent science fiction films, anime, video games, and television programs.
A sequel called Blade Runner 2049 was released in most countries on October 6, 2017. It was released in Japan on October 27, 2017.
