amagiri (kancolle)
"天霧", "heavenly mist" or "atmospheric mist".
The personification of the Japanese destroyer Amagiri in Kantai Collection. 15th of the Special Types, 5th of the Ayanami-class.
Character design by Drew, voiced by Suzuki Minori.
Personality
Amagiri has a "hotblooded" tomboy personality, and seems to relish combat. Her lines reference her being taken care of by her younger sister-ship Sagiri, who was implemented at the same time. She also makes occasional references to JFK in her lines on account of her history as outlined below.
Appearance
Amagiri has very long grey hair tied in a ponytail, with asymmetric bangs involving a strand going between her eyes. She has grey eyes in tsurime style, and wears grey horn-rimmed glasses. Like most of the Fubukis, she wears a fairly standard (if desaturated) serafuku outfit with a grey ribbon, and grey pleated skirt. Underneath, she wears a black-with-green-trim bike shorts and long-sleeved undershirt. (The former of which is only visible in her damaged art.) She also wears black kneehighs with white anchor symbols on them. In her remodel art, she notably has well-defined abs.
Her rigging involves the standard Fubuki-type "backpack" of a mast and smokestack, with a large anchor hanging to the side. She holds a twin-cannon turret in her right hand, and has a triple torpedo launcher strapped to the outside of both thighs. She also wears boxy metal boots with a large red "keel" on the back.
She also has a kai ni/second remodel released on January 21, 2022. See the page for more details.
History
The historic IJN Amagiri saw action in battle of Midway, Eastern Solomons, the Tokyo Express transport missions, and Kula Gulf before she was sunk off Borneo in 1944 during a transport run.
Her most famous historical incident (at least, well after the fact), was the sinking of PT-109, an American torpedo boat that happened to carry future-President of the United States John F. Kennedy. During another Tokyo Express mission to Vila, Amagiri went into an engagement with PT boats, and rammed the small torpedo boat. The captain of the Amagiri (Kouhei Hanami) would later go on to attend Kennedy's inauguration.
