Alonso Quijano, also known as Alonso Quixano, Don Quijote or Don Quixote, is an Hidalgo (member of the lowest nobility) from the Spanish reign of La Mancha who reads so many chivalric romances that he loses his mind and decides to become a knight-errant (caballero andante) to revive chivalry and serve his nation and his kingdom.
He is a very tall and skinny middle age bearded man who wears a rusty armor and wields a twisted sword. He is often depicted wearing a shaving basin as a makeshift helmet.
