A fighting game series published by Namco. Compared to its sister series Tekken, the series focuses on weapons combat and features more freeform 3D movement - a mechanic referred to as the "8-Way Run". The setting takes place in the late 16th and early 17th century and focuses primarily on the tales surrounding two legendary weapons, the eponymous Soul Edge and Soul Calibur; the former is a corruptive weapon born of death that seeks to reap souls for power, while the latter is the diametric opposite and aims to destroy or otherwise stop its sibling.
