Central figure of Christianity, believed to be part of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost). Adherents of Christianity believe Jesus was the 'begotten Son of God' who was made incarnate of the Virgin Mary, became man, sacrificed himself on the cross to 'cleanse' mankind of its sins, resurrected from the dead after three days, and ascended into Heaven.
Islam, a kindred religion of Abrahamic roots, reveres him as a messenger and as the Messiah, but not as the Son of God.
Some Mormons (a nontrinitarian restorationist sect) even believe that the ancient Aztec god Quetzalcoatl was historically Jesus Christ, who visited America in ancient times.
Certain anime and manga series occasionally add their own interpretations of Jesus. One such example closest to the Bible is Steel Ball Run, but mostly based on Mormon interpretations.
Christ is a title meaning "messiah", not his surname.
When needed specificity he can be refered as "Jesus of Nazareth", named after his hometown.
