The main protagonist, and the spirit of Dragon Ball. He is married to his wife Chi-chi and has 2 sons named Son Gohan and Son Goten. Goku is not human, but actually Saiyan (from planet Vegeta). Capable of several different transformations including Kaiouken, Super Saiyan 1, 2, 3, 4, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue and, ultimately, Ultra Instinct. His Saiyan name is "Kakarot", which is how Vegeta addresses him throughout the anime and manga. Some of his signature techniques are the Kamehameha and the Genki Dama.

He is loosely based on Sun Wukong of the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West, whose name is translated as Son Gokuu in Japanese.

Goku's Japanese seiyuu is Nozawa Masako, while the current English dub voice actor is Sean Schemmel, though the character has gone through many different dub voice changes in the past.

Possesses the Power Pole as his "weapon".
